OUR COURSES

Brilliant Parents trains parents using the Triple P Positive Parenting Programme, the most effective evidence-based parenting programme in the world. Triple P works for us not only because evidence proves the practice works, but also for the flexibility of its programmes.

Triple P Parenting allows for lots of open discussion and peer support, which works with the wide range of people from different cultures and backgrounds we work with in our communities.

Triple P also gives us a great range of tools to choose from when choosing a programme for a group, from seminars to one-to-ones, discussion groups and short courses. Below is a short description of the programmes we currently offer for parents with children aged 2-10 or teens, 11-16 .

INDIVIDUAL PROGRAMMES

Primary Care

We run Triple P Primary Care courses on a one to one basis and gives guidance that is tailored to help you with specific issues via Zoom or the telephone.

If your child has a particular behaviour problem that is making family life more difficult than it should be, then Primary Care Triple P can help. This is a very brief and private way for parents to get Triple P support. There are usually about four sessions (although sometimes more, sometimes less). It will be just you (and your partner, if you wish) and a Triple P provider who is trained and accredited to offer Triple P.

You will talk with your provider about the problem you have and discuss what might be causing your child to behave this way. Then you’ll work out the changes you would like to see in your child’s behaviour.

You will be sent a tip sheet and given suggestions to deal with the problem. The tip sheet will remind you of the things you have discussed. You may also be shown a DVD that shows other parents dealing with similar problems with their children.

Self Directed eProgrammes

The Triple P (Positive Parenting Programme) online course entails the completion of a 30-60 minute module each week for eight consecutive weeks in your own time on a computer, tablet or smart phone. The modules will introduce you to Triple P’s seventeen parenting strategies.

You can choose whether you wish to study TPOL for children aged 2-10 years of age or teenagers between the ages of 11-16. Brilliant Parents provides one 30 minute telephone call for the Standard package and four 30 minute telephone calls for the Premium package every two weeks during the programme to support you by keeping you on track, discuss strategies and other elements pertaining to you successful completion of the course.

GROUP PROGRAMMES

Seminars

We run Triple P Seminars for larger groups via Zoom.

There are six seminars in the Triple P series.  For parents with 2-10 year olds there are:

  • The Power of Positive Parenting
  • Raising Confident, Competent Children
  • Raising Resilient Children

For parents with teenagers 11-16 there are:

  • Raising Responsible Teenagers
  • Raising Competent Teenagers
  • Getting Teenagers Connected

Parents can choose to do one, two or all three seminars. They deal with the most common parenting issues we all face such as getting a toddler to eat her dinner or a teenager to be reliable. Brilliant Parents runs Triple P Seminars in person for organisations such as parents community organisations, schools and children’s centres or via Zoom directly to parents. The seminars last around 90 minutes and are designed to be a brief introduction to the Triple P strategies and to give parents techniques to try out at home.

Discussion Groups

We run Triple P discussion groups as small group sessions, bringing together parents who are experiencing the same parenting issue via Zoom.

There are four problem topics to choose from for parents with children aged 2- 10:

  • Dealing with Disobedience
  • Developing Good Bedtime Routines
  • Managing Fighting and Aggression
  • Hassle-free Shopping with Children

There are also problem topics for parents with teenagers,  aged 11-16 namely:

The Discussion Groups lasts around two hours and in a relaxed group session, we will give you tips and suggestions for dealing with your child’s problem behaviour, looking at short video clips showing other parents successfully dealing with the same issue and sharing your thoughts with the other parents in the group.

Triple P Group Course (For parents with children 2-10)

The reality of being a parent can sometimes be very different to what parents expect.  Triple P Group Parenting Courses will give you the time to reflect on your parenting skills and support you to improve upon them so that you can manage any unexpected behaviour problems in your children, leaving you feeling confident and competent in your parenting skills.

Triple P Teen Course (For parents with teens 11-16)

The teenage years can often bring along challenges for families.  More than ever teenagers are under a tremendous amount of pressure with puberty, transition to high school, exams and the prospect of having to make new friends. The challenge for parents is to guide and support teenagers to become well adjusted young adults.  This course will give you some useful ideas to help you meet the challenges of raising teenagers.

Triple P Stepping Stones

Facilitators delivering Triple P Stepping Stones courses welcome parents who have a child with a disability to come together to learn and grow together either face to face or via Zoom.

TESTIMONIALS

Mum, Jacqui Ryan, who attended a Brilliant Parents Stepping Stones course and whose son suffers with Prader-Willi Syndrome

“Attending the course gave me a chance of looking at what to change, how I look at dealing with my son’s behaviour and diverting him to other activities.  It has made me look at what works for our family and made me confident at dealing with my son’s behaviour.  The course has changed and made me understand the way every situation has to be dealt with.  I am glad I went on the course”

TESTIMONIALS

FROM OUR PARENTS

“At the start of the course I realised that I was always shouting whenever the kids were misbehaving. I discussed it and was taught many strategies to deal with issues regarding their behaviour. Now I can manage the challenges and have learnt how to deal with the misbehaviour and am improving my parenting patterns.”
